Conscience's Voice Starts To Fade
Daily Devotion
Rm 1:18 (NASB) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
The Bible states that at minimal, everyone could have an awareness to live carefully on earth, making sure that their decisions will not lead them to various evil because there is God who will hold them accountable for their life on earth (Rm 1:19-20). However, when someone has the tendency to "suppress the truth in unrighteousness" - refusing their conscience's voice by all means - then that person will start to experience various life degradation and destruction. At first it may seem to be a 'normal degradation that everyone goes through', but without response of repentance and by once again listening to their conscience's voice, that person will keep degrading to the point they could not be saved from total destruction.
1. Degradation level 1: Their heart starts to turn away from God (Rm 1:21)
Those who refuse their conscience's voice will start to assume that every result and achievements in their life are the fruit of their own brilliant labour and decision-making; no intervention of God whatsoever, only their hard work. More or less, that's the thinking pattern and heart attitude built in their life when they start to turn away from God. While the truth is: Without Him, we couldn't do anything (Yoh 15:5)
2. Degradation level 2: Their heart and mind's condition becomes emptier and emptier, and their life's focus is directed towards futility (Rm 1:21)
New Creations who keep following their conscience's voice will surely keep chasing after godly things of eternal value (Col 3:1-4). Meanwhile, for those who keeps violating their conscience's voice, slowly but surely, their conscience will start to 'talk less' in life areas they often violate. There is a certain 'emptiness/void' in that life area; God's voice is no longer there. It is in 'empty' places like this that worldly spirits usually live in and try to plant the tare seeds into someone's life (Mat 12:43-45). In such condition, the person's life is ruled by their heart's desires. Meanwhile, an inaccurate person's heart desires will surely plunge them into futility.
3. Degradation level 3: Their daily living and behaviour starts to manifest foolishness (Rm 1:22)
In the New Testament, every time God talks about 'the foolish', He often refers to those who are disobedient, fails to understood His heart's desire, and those who live in greed and depend on their financial wealth (Mat 7:24-27, Mat 23:17-18, Luk 24:25-27, Luk 12:15-21). Those who no longer take heed to their conscience's voice will start to exhibit these 'foolishness' in their day-to-day life.
4. Degradation level 4: The urge to enjoy impure and worldly things starts to be frequent; interest in things that are godly, holy and full of glory keeps on decreasing or is gone in their life (Rm 1:23-24)
A person whose conscience's voice starts to 'fade' will find the increasing urge and desire to live in impurity and worldliness. Automatically, the desire/interest to seek after things from God weakens. Slowly but surely, the person will become further and further from godly and spiritual matters. The influence of the world and the pleasure of sin feels more appalling to their heart.
5. Degradation level 5: God gave them up to vile passions (Rom 1:25-26)
So far, there are still many people who got rebuked by their conscience when they follow their impure heart desires and when they are trespassing. At this level however, they found no more rebuke from their conscience when they do various sins and trespasses. They could continue to live in sin without any remorse.
