Nama ini dicetuskan oleh Abraham karena diatas bukit Allah telah mengadakan seekor domba ganti Ishak untuk dikorbankan. Allah tidak mau menerima Ishak sebagai korban sembilahan dan menggantikannya dengan domba yang tersangkut pada belukar.

Perintah Allah kepada Abraham untuk mengorbankan anaknya hanya menguji sampai dimana kecintaan dan ketaatan Abraham terhadap Allahnya.

1. Abraham percaya dengan sungguh walaupun Ishak dikorbankan, maka dari abu tersebut ia akan menerima anaknya kembali Ibrani 11:17-19.
2. Ishak tidak perlu dikorbankan diatas mezbah, karena korban yang sebenarnya telah ditentukan Allah, yaitu Tuhan Yesus, Anak Domba Allah. Yohanes 1:29.

YEHOVÂH YIR'EH telah membuktikan bahwa Ia, Allah yang benar-benar sanggup mengadakan , hal ini dicatat dalam Alkitab :

1. Tuhan sanggup mengadakan jalan raya kering ditengah laut Kolsom yang terbelah oleh kuasa Allah. (Keluaran 14:15-16, 21).
2. Tuhan mengadakan guruh dan guntur yang hebat, sehingga orang Filistin lari ketakutan dan dikalahkan bani Israel. (1 Samuel 7:10-11).
3. Tuhan mengadakan air memancar dari batu yang dipukul, sehingga orang Israel dapat minum air sejuk. (Keluaran 17:6).
4. Tuhan mengadakan roti yang turun dari langit untuk menjadi makanan bani Israel. (Keluaran 16:4, 12).
5. Tuhan mengadakan suara beberapa rata yang gemuruh dan beberapa kuda sehingga tentara Syam lari tunggang langgang. (2 Raja 7:6-7).
